Yoga

Hi, I’m Chloe!

I’ve been practising yoga since 1992, starting with Ashtanga Yoga, then moving into Power Yoga, Vinyasa Yoga and Jivamukti Yoga.  I started teaching by subbing for one of my teachers, and enjoyed it so much I decided to train properly.  I qualified as an Ashtanga teacher in 2002, both through AIPYS and with David Swenson.  I then trained in Sivananda-style Hatha Yoga, qualifying in 2003, also with AIPYS. That same year, I spent my summer training as a Vinyasa teacher with the wonderful people at White Lotus, received my teacher’s certificate in December of 2003, and did a follow-up advanced teacher training with them in 2004.

Since then, I’ve decided to deepen my understanding of anatomy and how it relates to movement, training as a Stott-certified Pilates teacher.  This has also given me a better understanding of how to customize a practice to individual needs.

Between 2001 and 2005 I taught a variety of regular classes, as well as intensives, in Spain.  Although my main focuses were advanced Ashtanga and Vinyasa classes, I also taught beginner and intermediate Hatha classes, and ran several weekend intensives on Ashtanga for beginners.  “Finding your dynamic equilibrium” (a Vinyasa intensive) focused on balance in breath, body and mind, and was a lot of fun!

In 2003 and 2005 I taught in Atsitsa, the beach-based holiday centre attached to the Skyros Centre, in Greece.  It’s such a joy to practice outdoors, in a beautiful setting, and when everyone’s on holiday and can really relax and get into a meditative frame of mind, or just enjoy.

Between 2004 and 2008 I taught regular classes in London. Currently, I teach occasional private classes and retreats.

My focus in all classes is on finding yourself through a dynamic, anatomically designed physical practice.  I customise my classes depending on the time available and who comes along.  Yoga and Pilates can help you to become stronger, more flexible, and more coordinated, but they go much further.  In intensives or longer classes I include kirtans, pranayamas and meditation to connect to a deeper, more spiritual practice.

Throughout, I’ve always been interested in trying different styles and techniques: take a look at my links to get a flavour.
